Maya Buchhalter is currently in the PMHNP program at the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing.  A Miami Native, she graduated from Nova Southeastern University with her BSN in Nursing.  Shortly after graduation in 2019, Maya relocated to New York, where she began her nursing career in a women's mental health shelter.  At the shelter, she developed her expertise focusing on verbal crisis de-escalation and therapeutic communication for psychosis.  As Maya continues her work in the non-profit sector, she hopes to grow within the small Latin community of mental health providers in New York, while continuing to focus on vulnerable populations, harm reduction, and those with severe mental illness.
